Pet Portrait Sneak Peek: Gertie, Chloe, Kelly, and Riley

This past weekend I photographed four beautiful German Shepherd dogs. Meet Gertie, Chloe, Kelly, and Riley! I met Gertie and her mom at the San Diego Humane Society’s Walk for Animals a few months ago. It was great to see them again and also to meet the other pack members. Two of the pups were a little camera-shy but I was able to bribe them with my trusty dried salmon treats. I had a really great time with these lovable girls. Here are some of my favorite photos of each…

Pet Portrait Sneak Peek: Chiquita

You may remember a few months ago when I held the contest for a free session at the San Diego Humane Society’s Walk for Animals. Chiquita was our winner with an absolutely amazing 969 votes. Her mom and dad sent the contest link to their friends and family all over the globe. They REALLY wanted a session and I’m thrilled they won!

Chiquita was so much fun to photograph… she’s such a little ham! She loves her mom and dad dearly — she never took her eyes off them (except when she was trying to nose her way into my treat pouch). We spent some time at her house and at a nearby park where Chiquita loved chasing her ball and lounging in the shade afterward. She is an incredibly happy dog, which I think is quite evident from the photographs I captured. What do you think?

Pet Portrait Sneak Peek: Harley Girl

Meet Harley Girl, the tri-colored, low-ridin’ Welsh Corgi! Harley is such a friendly little dog. She loves hanging out at home with her mom, dad, baby brother (the two-legged kind), and big brother Mister (a sweet black & white cat). When outside, Harley likes to visit her doggie friends around the neighborhood. We went to a nearby park during our session and I learned that Harley LOVES to play fetch. It was so cute to see her little legs moving so quickly to chase after it. Check out the photos of Harley and tell me what you think!

Pet Portrait Sneak Peek: Dodge

This weekend I had the opportunity to photograph Dodge, a Paint Horse who is an incredibly talented barrel racer. He is absolutely gorgeous and even has a blue eye!

We decided to photograph Dodge at Skye Valley Ranch, a very special family-owned property surrounded by national forest. The day of the session was perfect… hot, but perfect! The mustard was growing high, the sky was oh-so-blue, and the sun was shining. Dodge was very well-mannered and gave me some great poses.

Please be sure to leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Roxy’s Road Trip Part 2: Mammoth Lakes

Happy to be out of Death Valley, Roxy became even happier when she saw snow on the ground! Our next stop was Mammoth Lakes. We stayed in the cutest little cabin at the Tamarack Lodge.

I really loved it here and I can’t wait to go back. I’d classify the Tamarack as somewhere between “pet tolerant” and “pet friendly” — a little more-so on the “tolerant” side. Pets were not allowed inside the lobby and no pet amenities were provided. That being said, pets were allowed on all parts of the property. There were no “keep dogs off the grass” signs (maybe they were just covered by the snow). Plus, there was enough space where we could get away from people and let Roxy run free.

OK, I have to tell you about the snow here. THE SNOW! IN JUNE! It was insane! Mammoth Mountain was still open for skiing. In fact, they were planning to be open ’till July 4th. Can you even imagine?

One evening while we were out exploring, two bicyclists flagged us down. One had a flat tire and no way to repair it. We popped her bike in the back of the truck and gave her a ride home (her friend wanted to finish the ride on two wheels). Turns out, she’s also a dog lover and an outdoor enthusiast. We asked for recommendations on good biking or hiking trails and she said, “well, I’m taking the day off tomorrow and was planning to go on a hike. Would you like to join me?” I jumped at the chance to have a local show me around, so we made plans to meet the next morning. She invited another friend and each brought one of their dogs.

I was excited and surprised that the trail we hiked — Sherwin Lakes — didn’t have any leash laws. Roxy was in heaven, running and sniffing anywhere she could. Well, the trail was a few miles long with an elevation change of about 950 feet. The elevation was killer! The end of the trail brought us to the most beautiful, pristine lake sitting at roughly 8,700 feet above sea level. The dogs jumped right in (except Roxy, of course) and everyone had a great time.

I also learned that Mammoth is bear country…

… but that’s a story for another day…
