A little travel, a few pitties, and lots of ooey gooey golden light

Every summer, I make an annual trip home to the east coast. I would stay there all season if I could — because holy cow, northeast summers are the.best. — but alas, I usually have about two weeks to fit in all the family, friends, food, and adventures I can.

One adventure I always take is a road trip to visit these two incredible souls right here: Kaylee and Sam! Their ham sandwich of a dog, Joshua, (their words, not mine; I can’t take credit for that brilliance) has been part of their family for many years but just a few months ago, they adopted little tripod-pup, June, and I couldn’t wait to meet her!

When Kaylee and Sam visited me in California a few months ago, they mentioned how much they would love portraits from me of them with their pups. So, when it came time to pack, I knew that big, heavy bag of camera gear was a non-negotiable, even though the weather forecast said 100% chance of rain. When it was time to go, I hoisted all the gear on my shoulders and hoped the weather people were wrong. And they totally were! We had the most incredible ooey gooey golden light — I’m telling you, this is what my dreams are made of!

Joshie and Junie are two of my favorite dogs on the entire planet. Even thought it was my first time meeting June (aka “Rink,” thanks to her permanent snarl wrinkles), I fell madly, deeply in love with her. She is ridiculous and adorable and squishable and lovable and… you get the point.

Don’t worry, Joshie! I still love you, too! I really wanted to create a special photo of him with his mom. This guy had a hard start to life — he was left for dead in a dark basement with no food or water — but thanks to kind neighbors, an incredible rescue team, and his loving mama, he now has the best life of any dog out there. He is an inspiration to all who know and love him!

No one really knows how Junie’s life started but she came into the rescue with a very bad leg injury. The rescue asked Kaylee and Sam to foster, they said yes, promptly fell in love with her, and that was it. She was staying for good!

All of these photos just make me so happy! They remind me of a beautiful evening spent with good friends, happy pups, sunshine, and all the joy and gratitude in the world!

Do you have a favorite? I can’t choose!

Wyoming better move on over and make some room bec Wyoming better move on over and make some room because Montana now shares my heart. We spent 45 days in the western half of the state this year and I did NOT want to leave. On our last day, Roxy and I sat out by the Gallatin River together. I sipped my morning tea, we listened to the birds, and watched a little squirrel eat a nut in the tree next to us. It was pure perfection.⁣
My *TWO* Montana blogs are up on my website so head on over to westwaypets.com/blog or click the links in my IG bio!

Photographing Rey and her mom among the red rocks was one of the highlights of our trip. Rey's beautiful brindle tones worked so perfectly with the red rocks and I just loved the happy, natural smiles both mom & pup had when they were together!
I absolutely loved this peaceful spot in Jackson H I absolutely loved this peaceful spot in Jackson Hole. Down a gravel road, away from the tourist crowds, the Teton range stood nobly in the distance while tall trees, yellow wildflowers, and a friendly little chipmunk called this hilltop home. This was such a special evening and Mother Nature's dramatic sunset is not one I'll soon forget.

Hello, Las Vegas! Shutterhound starts TOMORROW!!!! Hello, Las Vegas! Shutterhound starts TOMORROW!!!! I know how hard the conference founders, Kaylee & Sam, have been working to pull this all together and I am 1,000,000% confident this will be an event to remember! I am honored to have been asked to teach two separate classes at the event and am so excited to get up there on stage and share what I've learned over the past 13 years as a pet photographer! Are any of my social followers here at the conference, too? Are you ready to have your socks knocked off????? I am!!!

Roxy rode in her carriage and was as happy as a little clam the whole time. She loves being out in nature and I'm just so glad we can still provide her with special outings like this one.

I'm flying out to Las Vegas next week to teach at Shutterhound, *the* conference for pet photographers. I'm excited to see old friends, meet new ones, and teach two classes! I am so honored to be part of the "rockstar speaker" lineup, which includes some of the very best, most iconic, and talented pet photographers from across the globe! Can Vegas even contain so much talent? As the conference founders are telling us, expect your socks to be blown right off more than once!
