Project Fresh For JustFoodForDogs
Project “Fresh” with JustFoodForDogs Products
JustFoodForDogs (JFFD) is a fast-growing brand of fresh, whole food for dogs made with USDA-certified ingredients. They were in need of lifestyle imagery for their organic, paid social, and e-commerce channels. JFFD requested that we not only show off the food and treats, but also the relationships the humans share with their companion animals in a variety of relatable, everyday-life ways.
We had three goals for this shoot:
- Capture images of dogs who are excited about eating JustFoodForDogs meals.
- Show dogs who love JustFoodForDogs treats.
- Capture feel-good lifestyle images of dogs and their people living their best lives.
JFFD also specifically requested some of my signature sparkle-light photos — and I was happy to oblige! Want to know how to capture those warm, inviting, dripping with gotta-have-it goodness? Hint: it’s all about the light!
HOW WESTWAY WENT WILD FOR JFFD
> Natural and emotional lifestyle images showing happy, healthy dogs (who regularly eat JustFoodForDogs) alongside their humans
> Location scouting of two possible homes and a park, including sample photos of the different spaces
> Photography at one home location and one park location over one day
> Worked closely with JFFD’s videographer who created video content to work alongside the still photography
We rented a beautiful home in Costa Mesa, CA that had beautiful lighting, furnishings, and finishes. It can be tough asking homeowners to welcome numerous dogs into their space and allow us on the furniture — but this homeowner welcomed us with open arms.
When we finished up inside the house, there was a perfect little park right around the corner and just enough sun that allowed me to capture some of my signature sparkle-light shots!
Thankfully, JustFoodForDogs has awesome food and treats, so all the dogs were extremely motivated to chow down and made goal #1 and #2 easier than average! Our doggie and human models were a mix of the brand’s employees, customers, and social media influencers. Everyone was super-happy to be part of a photo shoot for a brand they know and love, so it made the day even more special than it already was!
And for the third goal… well, lifestyle photos of dogs and their people are kind of my jam!
