Commercial Pet Brand Photography Portfolio: Wellness Pet Company
Project “Wellies” for Wellness Pet Company
Westway aims to put a little good back into the world and working with companies like this one, who are helping to make our animal companions’ lives happier and healthier, makes that so much easier to do.
Wellness Pet Company is the parent company for brands like Wellness, WHIMZEES, Sojos, and more. They were redesigning their website and wanted to capture happy, loving moments between their employees (“Wellies”) and their pets. They settled for nothing less than maximum authenticity for their brand. They wanted to shoot in city and park locations near their office and had a list of locations for me to research and choose from.
There was a small hurdle though: their office is in New England and I was in California! So we did a vacation shoot like I previously did with GoldPaw, using my east coast vacation to shoot commercial pet photography.
I needed to capture real people with real dogs and find unique points of interest in the different areas we were shooting without having the opportunity to scout the locations in person. Thank goodness for Google Maps and an eager-to-help client!
HOW WESTWAY WENT WILD FOR WELLNESS
> Location scouting with specific list from client via Google Maps & last minute in-person scouting
> Photography at two locations over one day
For the first location, we opted for a great downtown area with quintessential east coast brick buildings, a canal, and an urban park/amphitheater area. I was able to scout this out on Google Maps beforehand and in-person about 12 hours before our shoot.
For the second location, we chose a beautiful park with green grass, trees, fences, bridges, and a bunch of beautiful garden areas that offered privacy from other park-goers. I was able to scout it about one hour before the shoot!
I really loved that my client was on-set the entire time and it was really fun to work in new locations because it pushed my creativity. It’s easy to get into a set pattern when you shoot in the same location all the time but it’s a great challenge to find the perfect light and backgrounds in new ones!
I love this family of brands and am so thrilled to get to work with them.
