Project “Pet Fashion” with West Paw Products

I’ve worked with West Paw on a number of shoots, but this was our very first one together and there are only three words to summarize the experience: so. much. fun!

West Paw was getting ready to launch a brand new line of products. They were releasing a huge variety of leashes and collars that spring and they had big visions for the imagery they wanted. Each type of leash needed to express something different to their consumers. They needed a variety of dogs and locations including urban, beach, country, and somewhere dogs could get wet and muddy to show the durability of the products.

Their shot wish list was super specific and needed to result in imagery for their catalog, social media, email campaigns, and to display at their upcoming global trade show booth.

Pro Tip: When you’re planning a photoshoot for your brand, make sure you think through what you truly need to get out of it. Get as specific as possible to make sure everyone understands your goals. It’s how you can make sure your new imagery will work in a wide variety of ways.

HOW WESTWAY WENT WILD FOR WEST PAW

> Outdoor photoshoot in January with spring and summer aesthetics

> Model casting call through direct email and social channels

> Location scouting including photos and videos sent to client for review

> Multiple location permit acquisitions

> Partnered with our trusted filmmaker who created video content to work seamlessly with our still photography.

FINAL RESULTS

This first shoot for West Paw was filled with such natural emotional moments, which makes for the most authentic product images. We focused on letting the models and dogs be natural and have some fun. One of my favorite dog models even got to take a leap in the mud to let West Paw customers know their products are just as durable as they are classy!

I love when clients tell me they want to connect with nature and let their dogs get dirty… A big secret about great commercial pet photography: mess is where the magic happens!

From the imagery we captured, you wouldn’t know that these spring and summer vibes were actually the product of a mid-January shoot! That’s San Diego for you – offering the best of all the worlds – from city streets and coffee shops to beaches, rivers and canyons. And for this shoot, we used them all.

West Paw has graced me with several more opportunities to capture their brand identity. Take a look at the shots we got for their Seaflex product launch and the premier of their Zwig and Rando toys.

Let’s chat about your project!
