Rancho Bernardo, CA | Studio Pet Portrait Photo Session | Judy
Judy, Judy, Judy… this little girl’s story is just incredible with such a happy, happy ending. A few years ago, little Judy was left at a high-kill shelter way out in Barstow, CA. The adoption rate out there is pretty bad to begin with, then you add in the fact that she’s a small dog, and her chances of leaving the place alive become nearly nil.
Thanks to the amazing guardian angel Tess and her friends, though, who drove the 3+ hours (one way!) every week to help the dogs up there, Judy was given a second chance at happiness and love. Tess and her friends were an independent group of people who just wanted to see these abandoned dogs find homes. They did it out of love and compassion for the animals, nothing more. They would collect donations for food and blankets for the dogs, and sometimes even money to be used to pay the adoption fees charged by the shelter or to cover vet bills once the dogs were brought back to San Diego.
On one fateful trip to Barstow, Tess found a little long-haired chihuahua mix in dire need of saving. My mom and I had just made a donation to cover an adoption fee; we didn’t know who it would be used for but we knew that it would mean one less dog in the shelter, and space for another coming in. With money in-hand, Tess scooped up this sweet little girl and brought her to a foster family in San Diego. Because of our donation, Tess decided to name the little girl after my mom: Judy.
Around the same time, a friend of mine and her family decided to welcome another dog into their home. She contacted Tess, who had a few small dogs with fosters at the time. My friend went to meet a little blue chihuahua but after a few minutes with him, knew he wasn’t the right fit for her family. As luck would have it, little Judy was living with the same foster family. Well, it was love-at-first-sight. My friend and her family took little Judy home and never looked back!
Judy is absolutely ADORED by this family. The youngest daughter carries Judy around all the time, which Judy can’t get enough of. And at our session, Judy didn’t take her eyes off her mom even once. She loves this family as much as they love her. And that, my friends, is what a happy ending is all about.
