Penasquitos Canyon Pet Portrait Photography | Golden Retriever | Cassie
I absolutely, positively adore senior dogs. Add in a white face and they become simply irresistable! I was so excited to meet Cassie the Golden Retriever for our fall session in Penasquitos Canyon. The autumn colors in the canyon were absolutely perfect against her reddish coat and I don’t think we could have picked a better spot.
Cassie lost her leg to cancer a few years ago and unfortunately, the cancer is back again in another leg. Her mom is doing everything she possibly can to keep Cassie happy and comfortable but she knew it was time to get photos taken.
Here’s a little from Cassie’s mom…
Cassie came into my life 6 years ago when a family thought that she was just too much to handle with their children. I had lost a Samoyed 5 years prior and it took me a while to even think of getting another best friend. My sister-in-law told me about Cassie and I hesitated at first, since I first thought about getting a smaller dog.
I went up to see her, about 100 miles from my home. She was beautiful, so playful, came to me right away, and didn’t even need a leash! The family said I could take her right then, but they said she might not eat for a couple of days due to the change and she doesn’t sleep in a bed. I thought, we’ll see. I opened my car door and she jumped right in!
We went directly to Petco and she picked out her own bed. From the first day I took her home she sleeps in her bed, eats constantly if you let her, her tail never stops wagging, she never gets on furniture or chews anything, always obeys and comes when you call her, is fully trained to go to the bathroom outside, and never needs a leash (unless required)!
She is the perfect best friend and I cannot understand why or how anyone could ever let her go. It is almost unbelievable and I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t love Cassie. Her favorite thing to do is play ball, but she doesn’t always like to give them back!

We love you Cassie! You are the most beautiful, kind, patient, sweet… I could go on and on about what an awesome doggie you are. Mommie is right – you are so well behaved – everyone loves you.

Terran, you did a magnificent job photographing the heart and soul of this beautiful dog. Her story brought both tears and smiles to my face because she’s was given the opportunity to be loved by this woman and was able to live her life to the fullest. May God bless them both.

Amazing pictures! Cassie also brings joy to our dog Ginger, also a golden retriever and is Cassie’s BFF and neighbor. Both dogs are inseparable.
