Commercial Horse Photography: Aquapaw Equine Grooming
As much as I love dogs, I also love horses. I always say that I grew up in a barn because, really, it’s where I spent all my free time. Riding, grooming, mucking stalls, feeding, and everything in between — it’s where I was happiest and felt the most myself. My aunt had me on the back of her horse before I could even walk and ever since that first day, I was hooked.
Knowing that, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that I was beyond thrilled when Aquapaw contacted me about a photo + video project to show off their new Equine Grooming Tool (which is awesome, by the way)! I teamed up with Jeremy for the video portion, which you can check out at the end!
What I love about the Aquapaw is that it took a pretty standard task of bathing — which really isn’t that complicated — and made it so much better! They thought about all the little things like making a curry comb + water sprayer that can easily be turned on and off with the bend of a finger. The detail I love most may be the wrist flap that keeps the water from dripping down your arm and getting you all wet. It was important to show all of this off in the final images.
But I’m getting ahead of myself… let’s start at the beginning…
Before you give a horse a bath, you have get them good and sweaty! So, we decided to capture some lifestyle images of horses and riders doing what they do best: mounting up and having some fun!
To me, riding has always felt like having wings. The relationship shared between horse and rider is one of friendship, trust, and joy — and there’s something completely magical about being on the back of such a big, powerful creature as he thunders across the ground beneath you… especially on a beautiful day in the sparkling sunshine.
After everyone had a good workout, it was time to cool down… it was bath time for the horses!
The Aquapaw is gentle enough to be used all over — even on the face and sensitive joints. Royale really enjoyed a little nose scrub and had a blast playing with the water. Plenty of laughs ensued!
We had an amazing time working with the Aquapaw team on this commercial photoshoot and we are so grateful for our incredible horse trainer, Jasmin Stair, and her right-hand man, Manuel; our gorgeous models, Allison and Anasofia; and the most handsome horses, Ricky and Royale!
